You must identify the victim, determine the cause of death, and decide whether the death was accidental, self-inflicted, or the result of murder.

When you believe you understand what happened, record your conclusions in a death certificate or emergency report. Choosing a suspect is not enough. Missing or incorrect information may lead to the wrong conclusion.
