Description
Your own images in VR – in full resolution
Put your photos on your PC and look at them in VR: in full resolution, as JPEG, PNG or TIFF down to the finest detail – including BigTIFF far beyond 4 GB, with no fixed size limit. This means every gigapixel image can be shown in VR as a BigTIFF. In the calm neutral room, as a 360° panorama all around you, or on the wall in the designer house. Your images stay on your PC – they are not uploaded.
VR Gigapixel Gallery is free – in a VR headset via SteamVR or as a 3D view on your screen. On top of that come many thousands of images by Gigapixel GmbH from the Gigapixel portal.
Features
Your own images with no size limit: view JPEG, PNG and TIFF in full resolution in the neutral room and in the designer house, your own 360° images as a panorama.
Neutral room and 360°: the evolution of the 2020 VR Gigapixel Gallery – a plain grey room without distraction, plus 360° panoramas that surround you completely.
Designer house: living room, gallery, bedroom, plant room, bathroom and gym, furnished and lit – a nicer setting than an empty room, so you get deeper into the picture.
The whole Gigapixel portal in the search: many thousands of images to choose from. Search, pick – the hit hangs on the wall right away. Image tiles load online while you look, so the installation stays small.
Size and crop: set the picture size in metres, choose the crop and drag its edges, walk up close or zoom in.
ppi traffic light: a label on the image shows width × height in metres and the pixel density in ppi; the traffic light tells you at a glance whether the resolution is enough for a high-quality print at this size.
48 languages: the gallery speaks your language.
How your images get into the gallery
Put your images into the folder PicturesVR Gigapixel Gallery – the gallery creates it on first start. The quickest way is the launch option "Open folder for your own images", which Steam offers when you click "Play"; on the screen the tablet also has an "Open folder" button. The images are prepared in the background and appear on the tablet – with pixel dimensions and ppi.
Formats: JPEG, PNG and TIFF, including BigTIFF over 4 GB.
Best saved as 8 bit, flattened to the background layer, sRGB.
PSD and PSB files are not read – save them as TIFF in Photoshop; over 4 GB with the BigTIFF option in Photoshop 26.2 or later.
Your own 360° images (2:1 aspect ratio or with panorama metadata) appear as a panorama around you.
Your images stay on your PC – they are not uploaded.
Also in the browser – with passthrough for your own home
The whole gallery is also available as a web version in the browser (link above under "Website"). With a passthrough headset, the web version brings the images into your own home: you see the picture on your real wall, at the right size. It is meant as a tool for customers and especially for craftspeople who want to show and plan a picture on site.
Important: passthrough is only available in the web version, not in this Steam version – SteamVR does not offer passthrough for it.
Controls
In the headset: push the right stick forward to teleport, sideways to turn, left stick to walk; the tablet opens search and settings.
On the screen: drag the mouse to look around, click the floor to teleport, walk with W/A/S/D or the arrow keys, mouse wheel to zoom.
An internet connection is required for the portal images.
