Historical foundation
The story begins in 849 and covers key events of the early Viking Age — a time when small warbands could change the fate of entire kingdoms.
You will take part in the first campaign of the Great Heathen Army into Kent and Mercia (~850) and will be able to change the course of this invasion — and with it, the future of England.
Can you build on this success and unite the lands under your rule long before the Norman Conquest?
But England is only the beginning.
The game spans multiple regions of Europe, each with its own conflicts, opportunities, and turning points:
England — invasion of Kent and Mercia, struggle for power, and the future capture of York (867)
France (West Francia, 858) — a kingdom torn apart by the rebellion of Robert the Strong and weakened by the flight of Charles the Bald. In this chaos, you can intervene and shift the balance of power
Iberia (844) — a daring invasion of the Caliphate inspired by the raid on Seville. Not just relive history — rewrite it
The story also includes other iconic events of the era:
The sack of Utrecht by Rorik of Jutland (850)
The capture of York (867)
And many other events woven into the gameplay
We approached history with the utmost respect:
