The EMD SW1500 is a 1,500 hp (1,119 kW) diesel-electric switcher locomotive built by General Motors’ Electro-Motive Division between 1966 and 1974. Designed to replace the SW1200, it quickly became a favorite across North America not only for yard switching, but also for road freight service thanks to its reliability and versatility.
