Tri-Rail’s fleet of GP49H-3s were introduced as rebuilt ex-Norfolk Southern units, upgrading them with Head End Power to be put to use on their daily commuter schedule out of Miami. Half a dozen entered service in 2006, although with the later arrival of the BL36PH, they have been gradually phased out, kept on the side for maintenance use and as a backup to the main roster.

Take control of the iconic “Geep”, deputizing on Tri-Rail passenger services in place of more modern equipment, adding a classic twist to the commuter sprawl of South Florida. Also haul extra traffic, such as ballast trains, as the demand of the railroad requires.
