The picturesque Tadami Line dates to 1928, when the first section of the line, known then as the Aizu Railway, was opened. It would take many decades for the line to gradually extend along the winding Tadami River, eventually reaching Tadami in 1963. The route the railway takes makes it one of the most scenic lines in Japan, and it has been awarded for its beauty.
