About the Game
From Train Sim Germany, the Spirit of Steam echos through the European countryside, as Train Sim World’s first German steam locomotive, the iconic BR 23, roars into life with the 1970s Neckartalbahn! Employ electric & steam traction on mixed-traffic duties along the Neckar Valley between Heidelberg and Neckarelz.
The Neckartalbahn’s first section dates back to 1862, but the full route following the path of the Neckar was not built until the late 1870s. The line became a key corridor through to the likes of Würzburg and Heilbronn, warranting a 2nd track by the early 1900s, as well as the relocation of Heidelberg and the beginning of electrification by 1955. Regular electric service would be in full swing by the 1970s, although a mix of traction remained into the decade.
In Train Sim World, find your way onto the footplate of the legendary and hard-working DBB BR 23, the first German steam locomotive in TSW! With improved driving and steam simulation physics, haul key passenger services with a lingering legend, still answering the call of duty despite “modern” electric traction taking the helm. Speaking of which, swap steam for buzzing overhead power in the tap-changing DBB BR 140.
Explore a route in its long-lost form, with stations, freight yards and branches operating differently to how they would today, or which have since vanished entirely. Follow the river as you run both passenger and freight services. From local stoppers and pick-ups to scenic expresses, the valleys of the ‘70s chuff and hum at all hours of the day.
Tackle more traction with layers (each available separately) that add additional hands-on electric and diesel power from the days of yesteryear, or of course, take the BR 23 on a European railtour.
