Description
LHBP - Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport
Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport (IATA: BUD, ICAO: LHBP) is Hungary’s primary international gateway and the busiest airport in the country, located approximately 16 km southeast of Budapest city centre.
Serving more than 17 million passengers annually, the airport connects Hungary with over 140 destinations across Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and North America. Flight operations are supported by two parallel runways: Runway 13R/31L measuring 3,010 meters and Runway 13L/31R measuring 3,707 meters, both capable of accommodating everything from regional aircraft to the world’s largest wide-body airliners.
Budapest Airport is a major base for Wizz Air and an important operating location for Ryanair, while also welcoming a wide range of full-service, low-cost, and cargo operators. The airport plays a significant role in Central European aviation and has become one of the region’s fastest-growing passenger and cargo hubs.
Passenger facilities are concentrated in the modern Terminal 2 complex. Efficient terminal design, modern infrastructure, and convenient access to the city make Budapest Airport a popular choice for both business and leisure travelers.
The airport is also home to BUD Cargo City, one of Central Europe’s leading air freight centers, handling nearly 300,000 tonnes of cargo annually and serving as a strategic logistics gateway between Europe and Asia.
Originally opened in 1950 as Budapest Ferihegy Airport, the facility was renamed in 2011 to honor the world-renowned Hungarian composer Franz Liszt on the 200th anniversary of his birth. Today, the airport continues to expand its route network and infrastructure while maintaining its position as one of the most important aviation hubs in Central and Eastern Europe.
Budapest Airport has received numerous international recognitions, including multiple Skytrax Best Airport in Eastern Europe awards and the title of Best Airport in Europe in its passenger category, reflecting its commitment to operational excellence and passenger satisfaction.
Whether handling domestic connections, international long-haul services, or growing cargo operations, Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport offers a modern, efficient, and welcoming experience at the heart of Central Europe.
