Beyond the Light

Let’s journey across this land to reach Dream Bobora. In an uncertain dimension, the Mayans of the Tikihama camp, located north of Dream Bobora, once thrived with immense power. However, 500 years ago, the Mayans faced an unforgiving territorial war against the Shoko Indians. Their brutal battles caused red storms to rain across the Dream Bobora region.

Fortunately, after years of conflict and crime, the Mayan chief Tikihama Djama created a powerful artifact: the Golden Pineapple. Using this artifact and performing ancient Mayan dances under every full moon, he managed to establish three other universes in parallel dimensions. During the last full moon of the final season, after the ultimate ritual of ancestral dances, he sealed hostile civilizations outside the Mayan territory, trapping the Shoko Indians and other peoples in these new dimensions.

However, despite being separated, these dimensions remained connected through the Dimension Link , a mysterious phenomenon. This link meant that each person in one dimension could have up to three nearly identical doppelgängers in the others. Peace reigned after this separation… until today!

Under the watchful eyes of two detectives, criminals took advantage of an ice cream truck’s passage to steal the Golden Pineapple. If its core is removed, the dimensions could merge once again, disrupting the fragile balance between them.

In one of these dimensions, a courageous hero, destined to become a detective, happened to be in the right place at the right time. During a performance, the detective duo Jimmy and Harry appeared, seeking to recruit a new assistant. But suddenly, another Jimmy from a parallel dimension arrived to warn them of an imminent danger threatening Dream Bobora.

An ORIGINAL Visual Novel!

Dive into an original visual novel featuring character visuals that truly stand out from other visual novels. You'll also discover brand-new mechanics that you won't find anywhere else.

In this game, I wanted to experiment with a multitude of NEVER-BEFORE-SEEN mechanics (see below). While the game stays true to its core as a visual novel with investigations, it incorporates a variety of features that make each case unique!

FUNNY AND SURPRISING INVESTIGATION

Solve crimes and other mysteries, knowing that every investigation is unique. Uncover unexpected cases like Yogurt Poisoning , Murder by Spoon , French Fry Gun , and Exploding Rubber Duck.

In these investigations, gather evidence in your notebook and piece together clues to establish proof, alibis, and motives. You'll also have access to three unique investigation modes:

• Exploration Mode : Move through the environments to find objects, pineapples, or even gold (called quetzal in the game).

• Observation Mode : Interact freely with characters on-screen and question them. This mode offers a visually immersive and fast-paced way to investigate.

• Simplification Mode : Access a streamlined interactive menu to interrogate each character, making the investigations more dynamic and accessible.

Another key feature: each investigation includes four different variations. Why? First, to stay true to the storyline involving the fusion of four dimensions. Second, to provide variety in the narrative and introduce new culprits. This means that every time you revisit an investigation, there’s a 1-in-4 chance of encountering a different culprit and storyline, all while staying within the same theme.

Of course, by the end of the game, you’ll unlock a special mode that lets you directly choose each "investigation path" without relying on chance. This will give you the opportunity to complete all the game’s achievements!

The main characters will join you on your investigations, especially Jimmy and Harry, who won’t miss a chance to tease you. Whether it’s withholding food or playing tug-of-war with your lovely pigtails, get ready for a colorful adventure!

Here’s a brief introduction to some of the characters:

• Jimmy : A psychic consultant for the police for years,Jimmy is quite immature but always ready with a joke. Thanks to his "psychic" gift, he’s solved numerous cases. While he’s rarely serious, he loves cracking mysteries. Oh, and why not offer him a pineapple?

• Harry: Jimmy's best friend and the more serious of the two, though he’s also quite gullible. Inseparable since childhood, Jimmy and Harry always investigate together. Harry has some unexpected passions, including pharmaceuticals, safes, astronomy… and tap dancing!

• Richard : A tough-as-nails police lieutenant with a strong personality, he’s often stern with others and constantly seeks to outdo Jimmy. However, their rivalry hides a form of friendship. Beneath his sometimes gruff exterior,Richard has a sensitive heart and a passion for cars and fine spirits. He’ll never let a criminal slip through his fingers.

• Johanna : A kind-hearted police lieutenant, she’s devoted to protecting the city. Partnered with Richard and in love with Jimmy, she’s sometimes caught between her work partner and her romantic partner. Her generosity and dedication to investigations are remarkable—sometimes to a fault. Yet, her devotion makes her an exceptional protector of those she holds dear.

• Each character belongs to a specific type , making them easier to identify while adding a visually appealing touch to the game. At the end of each character's dialogue, you’ll see an icon representing their type.

Design and UI

Here’s the Options Interface
My goal was to create a visually appealing menu for players.

In this menu, you can:

• Save your progress.

• View your achievements.

• Claim level rewards, such as tribal quetzals, Mayan keys, or other items.

• Access your card collection.

• Manage your inventory, where you can store various items.

Additionally, the options menu lets you adjust the speed of investigations :

• Quick Option : Jump straight into the heart of the investigation.

• Basic Option : Enjoy introductory dialogues before the investigation begins.

You can also change the game’s language. Currently, the game is available in French and English.

Summon Card

In The Golden Pineapple, you can summon cards with different rarities: normal, rare, super rare, and ultra rare. Some cards may also have shine effects (blue, yellow, red).

In the future, I hope to integrate a TCG (Trading Card Game) system with strategic battles. The goal would be to find the opposing culprit before they eliminate all your cards from the field.

This summoning system will work with Quetzals and adopt a gacha-like mechanic, but without any real-world costs. Collecting as many cards as possible will also allow you to unlock certain achievements.

Puzzle and minigames:

You will sometimes find puzzles in the main missions, necessary to satisfy the Mayans. These puzzles, integrated into the main quest, are generally quite simple. However, in exploration mode, you can go to the Tikihama temple to solve puzzles of a higher difficulty level. Unable to present all the puzzles, I'm sharing my favorite one with you. Note that the visual presented is not final. Each puzzle is unique and offers a little moment where you can really rack your brains.

Exploration:

In exploration mode (which I've chosen not to show you visually for the moment), you can explore the entire game city. In most of these locations, you will have the opportunity to talk to certain characters who will appear either randomly or at specific times of the day.

Here are some key locations:

• The Agency: Your default starting point, where you will find all the missions to explore on a gigantic black board decorated with pins.

• The Police Station: A place where you will meet certain police characters.

• The Big Top (Circus Tent): A place where you can participate in various mini-games.

• The Mayan Temple: A place dedicated to riddles and puzzles.

• The Tobacconist/Newsstand: The place where you can summon your cards and play the TCG.

Affinity

As mentioned previously, exploration mode will allow you to talk to characters. You will thus have the opportunity to learn more about their story by completing affinity quests. Depending on the level of affinity reached, they may ask you for certain gifts, such as quetzals, trading cards, flowers, or even fish.

This affinity is not limited to strengthening your bonds with the characters. It will also allow you to:

• progress in certain achievements,

• unlock unique rewards,

• obtain the character's card in question,

• and even experience an exclusive story or investigation in their company.

In parallel, the affinity dialogues will allow you to interact more with the characters.

Depending on your choices during discussions, you can unlock new affinity dialogues, rewards, and progress even further in your relationship with them.

Affinity Gifts: Offer gifts to characters to improve your affinity with them. However, some gifts may not be appreciated and could cause you to lose affinity.

Affinity Dialogues: Engage in conversations with characters and choose the right responses, as some of your choices will impact affinity. These affinity dialogues work like a "rock-paper-scissors" mechanic, but each character has their own unique system with strengths and weaknesses. It's up to you to figure out the right approach to increase the character's affinity

Fishing

Now that we have seen all this, let's move on to the fishing system.

The fish you catch are not only used to gain experience easily:

• You can also resell them to obtain quetzals.

• Or offer them to certain characters to improve your affinity with them.

The type of fish you catch will depend on the area where you fish as well as the time of day.

In addition to this, you have the possibility to:

• Buy new fishing rods to make fishing easier.

• Use lures that will increase your chances of catching a big catch, obtaining more experience, or even improving the size of your fishing bar.

Planting:

The planting system might seem quite simple, but it hides some subtleties. Depending on the seed you plant, you will need to water it regularly. If it is not watered properly, it will not grow.

To make planting even more interesting, some seeds require a specific quality of water as well as a precise quantity.

But that's not all! In the game, you will also find mystery seeds. These seeds can be watered with any water, but their results are unpredictable: they can produce incredible… or totally disappointing harvests!

The Colosseum

Fight creatures from… ? Where do they come from? No one really knows. The Colosseum leader will offer you two types of quests:

Adventure Quests: You improve your characters there and earn Paku (the Colosseum's currency).

Survival Quests: An infinite mode where the monsters become more and more powerful as you eliminate them.

But why would investigators want to fight? Well, Paku can be exchanged for various objects: items, quetzals, tributes, or even experience.

Find Items

Inspect the scene and scan the surroundings for hidden objects. You'll find puzzle pieces that will boost your affinity with certain characters. You can also uncover hidden pineapples, which will help you progress through the achievements. Find all the pineapples to become the world's greatest detective!

Equip accessory

Equip unique accessories that allow you to gain more Tribe Quetzals, XP, or affinity! Choose the right accessory to progress in your adventure!

Change your character's outfit with stunning styles! Customize your character’s skin color and hairstyle! You can even change your name at any time! Stay fashionable!

Collect 100 Achievements

Collect hundreds of achievements to become a unique player and complete the game 100%! Whether it’s earning an S rank in your investigations, exploring all the investigation branches, finding a ghost, increasing affinity with all your characters, collecting all the pineapples, or gathering all the cards, there’s plenty to do. In short, you’ll have your hands full, and the game promises a long playtime for those who love completing every achievement. Good luck!

Conclusion

The Golden Pineapple will make you discover absurd humor and sometimes unexpected revelations. Although it is a visual novel, the game also aims to be accessible to novices of the genre, by offering unique mechanics and great freedom.

There is still a lot to say about my game, because it is the fruit of a double dream. Since I was little, I have always wanted to develop games, and today, I finally have the opportunity to share this dream with you through The Golden Pineapple. I hope this game will mark the beginning of a beautiful epic.
