THE DAY THAT WASN’T

is an atmospheric psychological horror / thriller visual novel where your choices don’t just change the story — they decide who you become.

You wake up.

Morning. Coffee. Routine.

And an unsettling feeling that this day has already happened.

But you don’t remember it.

You only feel it.

🧠 Four Alter Egos. One Mind.

Every decision you make feeds one of four inner alter egos:

Alex — the rational, “normal” voice

Shadow — suppressed thoughts and instincts

Mad — obsession, fixation, emotional instability

Bully — aggression, denial, control

They influence how the world behaves — and which version of the story unfolds.

🔄 Nine Days. Diverging Paths.

The same day repeats nine times.

But the experience doesn’t.

• After day 4 , the story begins to shift toward one of four narrative scenarios , based on which alter ego dominates.

• The core events remain familiar — but descriptions, choices, tone, and meaning subtly change.

• After days 2, 5, and 8 , you experience dream sequences that hint at the path you’re walking — often before you fully realize it.

Some scenarios lead to multiple conclusions.

In total, the game features 7 endings , with branching sub-endings.

🌀 Psychological Glitches & Distortions

Reality reacts to your inner state:

• visual glitches unique to each alter ego,

• screen distortions, flickers, and noise,

• unstable UI elements,

• audio anomalies and unsettling sound cues.

The more dominant an alter ego becomes,

the more aggressively it reshapes the world around you.

🎮 What You Will Do

Players will:

• read a branching psychological narrative,

• make meaningful, personality-defining choices,

• observe how reality reacts to their inner state,

• navigate one of several narrative scenarios,

• uncover one of seven endings — or something in between.

This is not an action game.

It’s a psychological descent shaped entirely by your decisions.

⏱️ Length

1.5–2 hours per playthrough

• Replayable paths and endings encourage multiple runs

🎨 Visual Style

Two background styles reinforce the atmosphere:

Pixel style — stylized, minimal, unsettling

Bit / Grain style — darker, more realistic, oppressive

Both emphasize the feeling that something about this day is fundamentally wrong.
