Reconfigure is a puzzle-RPG-FPS hybrid game from one of the creators of Legend of Grimrock games and Noita. The game challenges you to think vertically as you build and fight your way through an abandoned spaceship.

Story

A starship is in the process of being reconfigured: constantly taken apart and rebuilt. The discarded parts are burned up as fuel to maintain continuous acceleration. As you enter only robotic servants and security units are roaming the halls of the vessel but you soon discover a complex network secret passages and puzzles that let you enter deeper into the guts of the vessel. They have been built to be impenetrable to a robot's mind but your human ingenuity and imagination lets you take advantage of them. Can you prevent the starship from reaching its final destination?

Design Pillars

• Puzzles. Rapid acceleration causes crushing gravity which prevents you from jumping and performing other platformer acrobatics. Instead you have to use carry, push, climb, magnetize and trigger buttons to solve obstacles and puzzles.

• Action. Combat prioritizes calculation, calmness and getting by with scarce resources. At times avoiding conflict can be the best option.

• Role-playing. Develop your skills and equip your character to increase the odds of surviving in the hostile environment.

• Levels and setting. Explore the tightly designed environments that also leave plenty of room for exploration and discovery. Keep your eye open for secret stashes of equipment and resources left behind by the last survivor on the vessel!

• Story. Learn about the past and the present of the starship and prevent it from reaching its destiny.

Development

Reconfigure is currently in pre-alpha stage. Various gameplay systems are still pending validation via prototyping and some open questions still remain.

Some of the features that will be experimented on in the near future are:

•  Inventory, items and resources

•  Implementing character development systems. The game will have lightweight RPG character progression with abilities and gear.

•  Puzzle system will be expanded with new block types and interactions between them and the environment.

•  Combat, AI and many other core systems will be expanded on and enhanced.

About the Developer

Hapatus is the creative outlet for solo projects of Antti Tiihonen. He is one of the masterminds behind Legend of Grimrock -series of dungeon crawling RPGs where he created tons of puzzles, levels, game design, audio and graphics for the games. He has also worked on titles such as Noita, Control, Alan Wake, Turbo Dismount 2 and Druidstone. His first solo-developed game, Stuffo the Puzzle Bot, bears many similarities to the puzzle systems of Reconfigure.
