Eugene wants more from life than the typical farm experience in rural Iowa in 1860, so he has the choice to join the Pony Express, running mail across the American west.

And along the way, he meets a few guys who help him expand his experiences!

You follow the story from the perspective of Eugene, as he rides across prairies and deserts. Of course, he has opportunities to also enjoy the company of some of his fellow riders.

Structure

New Frontiers is built on the Ren’Py visual novel platform. As such, the reader clicks through a sequence of screens, each with a bit of dialog to move the story along. That text explains the situations that are happening, and lets the main character, Eugene, share his inner thoughts.

Screens also contain a background image and typically one or more sprites for the characters. All imagery was generated using AI tools, but there was also a lot of human-generated post-production work.

Occasionally, the reader is presented with a choice for Eugene. Some of those choices have direct impacts on the ending of the story.

There are four possible outcomes (possibly five, depending on how you count them). There is also an in-game guide to help you achieve each of the different endings.

Along the way, the reader can save the game in many “save” slots and re-load the game from any saved location.

There are no sounds or music in the game. The game should take approximately 2 to 3 hours to play.

Adult Content

This story contains very adult themes. All readers are required to certify that they are 18 years old or older through an in-game menu.

While there is no full nudity in the game, there are images of men shown from the hips up, sometimes showing an indication of underwear, but sometimes not. The story includes strong sexual language throughout describing sexual acts between men.

All characters depicted in the game are over the age of 18.

Historical Fiction

This story is a fictional account of the events of the Pony Express. For those not familiar with the Pony Express, it was in operation in 1860 and 1861. This was before the telegraph lines and cross-country railroads were completed.

The story walks the reader through much of the details, but basically young men would ride from horse to horse as fast as they could across the American west. This was faster than other methods of the day, like stage coaches.

There is a main menu section in the game that delves a bit into the real history of the Pony Express.
