About This Game
Compromised Investigator is a narrative-driven investigative RPG set in a town governed by the Compromise. The creatures of the Night and Day have been separated by a curfew with few ever even getting to see one another. Peace is maintained through the Compromise, a collection of rules that value order and stability over truth or justice.
You play an investigator tasked with reporting on breaches of the Compromise. You examine crime scenes, question those involved, and decide how far to push them. What you uncover, and what you miss, shapes the world.

Each case places you at the center of an incident involving some breach of the Compromise.
Review in-world scenes and evidence
Question witnesses, suspects, and officials
Decide which leads to pursue and which to ignore
Deal with missing, misleading, or deliberately false information
You are not guaranteed certainty. Every case still moves forward.
Outcomes Shaped by Investigation
You do not directly issue judgments or punishments.
Instead, the outcome depends on how the investigation unfolds.
The evidence you uncover defines what can be acted on
Unasked questions and ignored leads matter
Responsibility may fall on unexpected parties
Even flawed or incomplete investigations have consequences
You don't get to know the consequences of your reports, until it's too late to escape them.
Multiple Playable Investigators
You can play as different investigators of different races and backgrounds.
Your character's nature affects how people react to you
Some witnesses are more open, others more hostile
Certain situations become easier or harder depending on who you are
The same case can play out very differently with a different investigator
As the Investigator, you are allowed to break the curfew of the Compromise, but that doesn't mean you'll get a good response if you're outside in the middle of the Day as an Undead.
A Persistent, Reactive Town
The town remembers your past cases.
Factions react to how situations were handled
Characters return with altered attitudes and circumstances
Ongoing tensions between Day and Night shift over time
Small choices can escalate into larger conflicts
There are no perfect resolutions, no ways to make everyone happy.
Replayability
No two playthroughs unfold the same way.
Cases affect each other, changing future events and available outcomes
The order in which cases appear is partially randomized
Different investigators lead to different interactions and solutions
Choices made early can lock, alter, or unlock later storylines
Replaying reveals new connections, missed consequences, and alternate paths through the same stories.
Character Progression
As the cases accumulate, your investigator changes.
Gain permanent afflictions that alter stats, abilities, appearance, and dialogue
Evolve those afflictions as you level up
Collect unusual items with game altering effects
Progress comes with drawbacks. The stronger you become, the less Human you will be.
When Things Turn Violent
Violence is uncommon, but dangerous.
Turn-based combat tied directly to story events
Your stats, abilities, afflictions, and items, all interact dynamically
Afflictions gained can carry beyond a single encounter
EnemyAI is based on their INT/WIS stats. Debuff them to make them dumb
Sometimes investigation fails, sometimes something attacks.
