We tested the hardness and ease of installation for dozens of Switch 2 screen protectors and came to the conclusion that there are only minor differences between most of them. In our testing we found that the plastic screen protectors rated two full hardness levels below tempered glass, so avoid the soft plastic screen protectors that come bundled with Nintendo’s official case and opt for tempered glass instead. We also found that the fancy applicators included in some more expensive options weren’t as helpful as they looked.
Most people should buy the cheapest option available from a reputable brand such as amFilm, JSAUX, and Spigen.

It’s worth noting that there is no anti-reflection coating and those looking to cut down on reflections should consider our other (more expensive) top pick.

This anti reflection screen protector from JSAUX is nearly triple the price of our other pick and only includes a single piece of tempered glass, but we were thoroughly impressed by its ability to cut down on dim reflections (bright or direct lights don’t go away completely) without diminishing the vibrant screen. In fact, the colors on screen seem to pop even more after installation.
This upgraded pick only includes one screen protector. If you run into any issues applying it, it’s worth reaching out to JSAUX and asking for a replacement. Their support team has a great track record.

Do not remove the factory-installed film
We recommend installing a screen protector on any new Switch 2 console right away. According to Nintendo’s official documentation, “The screen is covered with a film layer designed to prevent fragments scattering in the event of damage. Do not peel it off.” This film layer is quite soft, and many users have reported visible scratches from everyday use, but removing the film will ruin the screen. Install any screen protector directly to the surface without modifying the screen in any way.
Screen protectors are only part of the solution
Installing a screen protector will help protect the screen from scuffs and scratches, but we recommend carrying the console in a case to better protect the entire system from accidents. Those who may want a little extra protection (and added comfort) should consider a grip as well.
Is there a difference between standard and matte?
During our testing we found that, while matte screen protectors did offer moderate surface light scattering, the tradeoff was not worth it. Colors were dulled and the image was less clear. Those looking for anti reflection should consider the JSAUX Anti Reflection Screen Protector which is not matte but does reduce some glare.
