What’s new at Deku Deals - March 2024
Last year, Team Deku primarily focused on a few major new features for the site, notably building and launching our mobile app. We wanted to switch gears in 2024 and spend the first few months focused on more, smaller enhancements across the site.
These small enhancements can be easy to miss, so here’s a roundup of all the changes in 2024 so far.
New Stores
We’ve added support for a number of smaller stores to Deku recently, including…
- My Nintendo Store (in US & Canada)
- Video Games Plus (Canada)
- PlayStation Direct (US)
We also added PlayStation for Croatia! Croatia adopted the Euro in early 2023 and the PlayStation store followed suit in November, which greatly simplified the process of adding it to our site. Our sincerest thanks to Sony and the Croatian National Bank for working together for the benefit of Croatia’s PlayStation fans.
Spam
One of the oldest and most popular requests in our Community Ideas Forum has been better ways to prevent “spammy” games from cluttering up the Deku homepage and our most popular sections like Hottest Deals or Recent Drops. We’ve hesitant to remove any games from the site entirely or punish too many games with a label like “spam.”
However, we’ve put some filters in place for our browsing experience to prevent showing deceptive titles like “Call of Honor – Duty of Warfare,” a game which is intentionally trying to mislead by appearing in searches for Call of Duty. We’ve proceeded very cautiously and only applied this label to the worst, clearest offenders.
You can read more about our process and rationale here.
Release Notifications
Plenty of folks pre-order games early enough that it can be difficult to track when you’re able to start playing. Others want to wait on purchase decisions until the game is actually available.
Now at Deku, you’ll get a one-time notification via email (and via push notification if you have the app installed) when a game on your wishlist is released.
Release notifications have been enabled for everyone who is subscribed to wishlist notifications already. You can customize your settings further here.
New Hardware Page
The old hardware page worked great when the current generation of consoles were new and hardware choices were relatively few. However, we now have a wealth of accessories and options to choose between. We updated the hardware page to make it easier to find new hardware, especially on platforms you may not yet have.
Many smaller improvements too!
Just a short list of other improvements we’ve made to the site:
- Videos have been added to most item pages - you’ll see them alongside screenshots now.
- We removed the “beta” tag from our PlayStation and Xbox support (although you still need to opt into those two platforms on your account page).
- We removed eBay links from the site - unfortunately, it’s hard to verify that eBay auctions are truly for the game you want. These links ended up just being a source of false hope to most users, so we got rid of them.
